Wood flooring can arrive on schedule while the building is still too damp for it. Before arranging delivery, ask the installer to confirm that the room is ready to receive the material. The useful question is whether the wood and the building are approaching their expected service conditions. A fixed number of days in the room does not answer that by itself.
Check the building before delivery
The NWFA discussion of acclimation conditions recommends checking the jobsite before flooring arrives. The building should be enclosed, relevant wet work should be completed and sufficiently dry, and the heating and cooling system should be maintaining suitable conditions. Record room temperature and relative humidity rather than relying on how the room feels during a brief visit.
Ask for moisture measurements
Have the installer document the flooring and substrate readings using methods appropriate to the materials. Product instructions determine the acceptable conditions and how the flooring should be stored. Different products may have different handling requirements, so confirm the exact flooring model before opening or stacking cartons.
Combine this review with subfloor preparation. Flatness and moisture are separate checks. A surface can look even and still be unsuitable for installation. Ask who will repeat the measurements, what would postpone the installation and where the readings will be recorded. Once installed, maintaining suitable indoor conditions remains part of caring for the floor.
